Valencia Basket had to put Zalgiris Kaunas on the ropes many times before finally prevailing 91-87 and securing their first 20 EuroLeague wins. They led throughout the game, but the Lithuanians fought back repeatedly, and their accuracy from three-point range allowed them to tie the game in the final minute. A mid-range jumper from Brancou and Montero's composure at the free-throw line sealed the victory for Valencia.
Pedro Martínez post-game quotes:
“I prefer not to assess the standings or the number of wins we have right now. We’re in competitive mode and there will be time for that when the competition is over. We need to focus on the game we played today and the next one.
It was a game just as we expected. We were so aware that Zalgiris is a very good team and that they would put us under a lot of pressure that it helped us show a lot of character when they had an incredible fourth quarter. We were up by nine and they tied the game.
At that moment the team was mentally very strong, showing a great mindset to endure the difficult moments. And today it went our way.”
